hurricane ike
A short article earlier this week on the Time Magazine website mentions a study in Nature that says hurricane wind speeds have increased over the last two decades and that points to climate change as a potential cause of it all.
Although hurricane science is extremely complex and generally follow long-term trends, I think there is some real truth to studies like these. Whether you believe that climate change is actually affecting hurricane patterns aside, one thing that is for certain is that hurricanes are impressive and terrible phenomena.
Hurricane Katrina (2005), the costliest hurricane on record, cost over 1800 lives and over $80 billion in damages. Best of luck to those in Texas - especially the gulf coast region - over the next few days as Hurricane Ike rolls through.
